Microchips and Transponders

All animals being exported from New Zealand must be formally identified with a unique microchip. The chip is inserted under the skin and generally will remain operative for the life of the pet. Each chip has a uniques 15 digit number which is recognised internationally, The number is recorded on all export documents.

Having the microchip installed is the first process in preparing your pet for international travel.

Here at AirCare Pets we stock finest quality microchips and our team a certified installers.

When we uplift your pet or you come into our Transit Lounge the first job we will do is to read the chip with our scanners then check that the numbers match on all documents.

Vaccinations

Many overseas destinations have strict requirements for all pets travelling to those countries to be vaccinated before departure.

Each country’s requirements vary in this regard. The type of vaccine and the dates they are given vary. You should talk to your AirCare Pets consultant well ahead of travel date to ensure the correct process is followed.

One of the key details to be followed for all export vaccinations is to have the vet read the microchip BEFORE administering the vaccine.

The wording required is:

“Microchip xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx was scanned and verified prior to vaccination.”

The vet must then sign the entry and print their name.

Some vaccines are not stocked locally by all vets. Rabies vaccines for example may need to be pre-ordered. You should make extra time allowance for this product to be procured by the vet.
